Afrisa International was the orchestra led by Tabu Ley Rochereau. It grew out of African Fiesta, which Tabu Ley had co-founded with Dr Nico in 1963, and by the 1970s had become one of the most successful bands in Africa. Afrisa modernised the rumba sound and launched the career of the singer Mbilia Bel, the first female superstar of the genre.
